Veneers are a popular way of correcting smile problems. In this post we discuss five ways veneers can improve your smile — one of them may be just what you’re looking for!

Dental veneers aren’t new — the first veneers date to 1928, though much has changed since — but they are enjoying a surge in popularity now. There are many reasons people are seeking veneers, including that in many cases veneers can result in a perfect smile.

At Solomon Family Dentistry, our dentists are experts in identifying who is a great candidate for veneers. Veneers are a cosmetic procedure, meant to improve the way your teeth look, but they are especially good at correcting the five specific problems discussed in this post.

First, what are veneers?

Veneers are very thin shells designed to adhere to your natural teeth. They are custom-made to give you the smile you want. Usually veneers are constructed of either porcelain or composite. Your dentist carefully describes the difference between the two materials during your consultation.

When you have veneers, we first make sure that your teeth and gums are healthy. Then, we make molds of your teeth so that your veneers can be constructed. When it’s time to place your veneers, your dentist removes a thin layer of enamel and uses a strong dental bonding material to attach the veneers to your teeth.

The result is a custom-made smile that suits you perfectly.

Problem 1: Chipped teeth

Veneers can cover chipped or broken teeth, as long as your dentist has checked to make sure your teeth are healthy. Because veneers cover your natural teeth, any chips or broken teeth are hidden.

Problem 2: Discoloration

There are many reasons your teeth may be discolored. Staining, trauma, even some medications can result in teeth that appear yellow, brown, or gray. Discolored teeth aren’t necessarily unhealthy, but you may not like the way they look.

Veneers can hide the discoloration, and give you a bright, sparkling smile. Of course, you need to take care to avoid staining your veneers!

Problem 3: Gaps between your teeth

Many people who have gaps between their teeth don’t like the way it looks. If you’re among them, veneers could be the solution you’re looking for.

Veneers don’t pull your teeth together the way braces or aligners do, but they hide the gaps. Because veneers are custom-made, they can be shaped however you want.

If the gaps between your teeth bother you, schedule an appointment to discuss veneers.

Problem 4: Oddly shaped teeth

Are your teeth too pointy for your liking? Maybe the bottom of one tooth is slanted so that people think it’s broken.

If your teeth are shaped unusually, veneers can correct their appearance. Your natural tooth will still be there, but your smile will be even.

Problem 5: Small teeth

Perhaps your teeth are normally shaped but they just look very small. This is another issue that veneers work very well to correct.

If you’re not happy with the way your smile looks, schedule a consultation at Solomon Family Dentistry. Any of the doctors at our locations in Summerville or in Mount Pleasant are happy to answer your questions and make suggestions regarding how to correct any issues.
