3D CTs

3D CTs

Imaging procedures in dentistry help ensure you receive the proper care and treatment needed to maximize oral health and wellness. At Solomon Family Dentistry in Summerville and Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, expert dentists use 3D CT scanning technology to offer you the best dental care possible. Call the nearest office to schedule an appointment or book one online today.

3D CTs, also known as cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) systems, are different from traditional computed tomography (CT) scans. 3D CTs are dental imaging procedures in which a scanner rotates around you, capturing images of your teeth, gums, and jawbone using cone-shaped X-ray beams.

Specialists at Solomon Family Dentistry utilize 3D CTs for a variety of reasons. They could use the images to detect or rule out specific oral health conditions, such as tooth decay, tooth infections, jawbone loss, fractures, and other types of dental trauma. They may use the technology to plan dental implant placement, sinus lifts, or other surgical procedures.

Some of the many benefits you or your child can expect with 3D CTs at Solomon Family Dentistry include:

  • Optimal precision
  • Enhanced accuracy
  • No downtime
  • Comfortability

3D CT procedures are simple, fast, and painless. They offer your dentist a noninvasive way to answer clinical questions. 3D CT images aid in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment planning of various oral health issues.

During 3D CT scans, you sit or stand still and rest your chin on part of the scanning machine for better stabilization. While you stay still, the CT scanner rotates around your body, taking pictures of your mouth and surrounding structures. The procedure usually takes just a minute or less to complete.

After undergoing a 3D CT scan, your provider discusses the results with you. They use the information they obtain from the scan to detect or rule out specific problems or properly plan your dental treatment.

There’s no downtime after getting a 3D CT scan, so you can resume a normal routine immediately. If you receive a CT scan during a six-month dental checkup, your provider might also clean and evaluate your teeth after you complete the scan.

Attend routine dental cleanings and exams every six months or more often if your provider recommends it. While your dentist may recommend you complete dental X-rays every year, you may only need 3D CT scans in certain situations.

Fred Solomon, DMD

Frederick Solomon, DMD, is an experienced general dentist and founder of Solomon Family Dentistry, with five locations in Summerville and one in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He is proud to be able to offer comprehensive oral health care to so many communities in South Carolina.

Dr. Solomon started out with a small dentist office in Summerville, just off of Beauregard, which had two treatment operatories and one operatory for dental hygiene. Over the years, Dr. Solomon has expanded the practice, building a new office and moving down the highway off of Royal Road. His intention of starting a small practice to help the community has now progressed into a larger dentist office that reaches out to patients in the Summerville, Moncks Corner, Goose Creek, and surrounding areas.

Dr. Solomon graduated from St. Andrews High School and continued on to complete his undergrad studies at the University of Maryland. From there, he came back to Charleston to complete his education for dental school at MUSC and has resided here ever since.

When not in the dentist’s office, Dr. Solomon enjoys spending time with his wife and family and picking up a good book for the occasional read.
