Signs You Need To See A Dentist

Dentist Explaining Dental X-ray to Patient | Solomon Family Dentistry in Summerville & Mount Pleasant, SC

Maybe you had great teeth growing up. Never had a cavity, always had a bright white smile. As an adult perhaps you haven’t been to the dentist in a while because you thought your good luck in oral health would last you through your lifetime. For decades, the accepted recommended number of visits to the dentists for preventative care was two per year. Every six months you would go into your dental office and get a cleaning, maybe a fluoride treatment, and an exam from the dentist. However, as an adult, you may find yourself needing to go far more, or even far less, depending on your own treatment needs.

High-Risk Dental Patients

If you are a high-risk dental patient, you are someone who is more susceptible to oral health problems

such as cavities or gingivitis. High-risk patients may need to visit their dental office every few months. These people include Smokers, women who are pregnant, people with diabetes, people with autoimmune diseases or weakened immune systems, people who have gum disease or other oral health problems including cancer.

When to See A Dentist

If you start to notice anything abnormal with your mouths such as sores, bleeding, pain or rashes, you should contact an emergency dentist for an evaluation. If your tooth is broken, chipped or falls out, you should also contact an emergency dentist.

You should also see a professional if you are experiencing sensitivities to sweets, hot or cold foods, or if your teeth are becoming discolored. Sensitivity can be a sign of cavities and decay while discoloration can signify calcium deficiency, trauma to the teeth, or staining from too much coffee or smoking. All of these reasons for discoloration can be treated.

Dr. Solomon started out with a small dentist office in Summerville, just off of Beauregard, which had two treatment operatories and one operatory for dental hygiene. Over the years, Dr. Solomon has expanded the practice, building a new office and moving down the highway off of Royal Road. His intention of starting a small practice to help the community has now progressed into a larger dentist office that reaches out to patients in the Summerville, Moncks Corner, Goose Creek, and surrounding areas.

Dr. Solomon graduated from St. Andrews High School and continued on to complete his undergrad studies at the University of Maryland. From there, he came back to Charleston to complete his education for dental school at MUSC and has resided here ever since.

When not in the dentist’s office, Dr. Solomon enjoys spending time with his wife and family and picking up a good book for the occasional read.
