How Often Do You Really Need To See A Dentist?

How Often Do You Really Need To See A Dentist? | Solomon Family Dentistry in Summerville & Mount Pleasant, SC

Everyone knows that you should get your teeth cleaned twice per year but how necessary is it really? While the standard has long when twice-annual trips to the dentist if you ask a dentist Summerville SC, they will tell you that visits to the dentist should be as prescribed by your dentist! Some patients need to see a dentist more than twice a year, but other people who have excellent oral health can sometimes get by with only an annual dental checkup and cleaning.

There are many reasons why your dentist Summerville SC may want to see you more than twice per year. Pregnant women are more susceptible to gingivitis and cavities and should be seen at least twice during the pregnancy. Patients with gingivitis, who are getting dental implants, have oral cancer, or other dental ailments often need to be seen by the dentist more than twice a year to monitor their conditions closely. Even patients with osteoporosis should be examined regularly to make sure they are not suffering bone loss in their teeth and jaw.

The American Academy of Dentistry recommends that children begin to see their dentists as soon as their first tooth erupts which can be anytime between six months to one year old. Establishing good oral health habits at an early age can lead to fewer cavities and increased oral health. The more often patients go to a dentist Summerville SC as children or teens the less they will have to see their dentist as adults.

One of the best ways you can make sure that your oral health stays top-notch is to follow your dentist’s plan for your oral health and hygiene. Your dentist may suggest twice annual visits which are still the average, or they may tell you to come more often. If you haven’t seen a dentist in a long time, contact Solomon Dentistry today!
