Emergency Dentist | Fixing A Chipped Tooth

Emergency Dentist | If you’ve experienced any kind of accident or trauma to a tooth and it’s been chipped, you know it can be excruciating and worrisome. Luckily, there are a few things your dentist can do to fix your chipped tooth so you can get back to the things that matter.

Dental Bonding

For a cracked or chipped tooth, dentists can carefully, mix, apply, and shape a tooth-colored plastic adhesive to cover and fill the damage. This is called dental bonding. After the adhesive is used, it is exposed to an ultraviolet light that hardens the material and secures it in place. This procedure is particularly recommended for the many benefits it provides including how easy and quickly it can be performed. Most report little to no pain during dental bonding, and no anesthesia is required.

Keep your bonding well-maintained by avoiding dark-colored foods and drinks for the first 48 hours. During this period, the bonding is susceptible to staining. Don’t bite down hard, chew on ice cubes, or any solid objects, as this can cause your bonding to chip and would need repair. During regular cleanings and checkups, your dentist can check your dental bonding to make sure it’s still intact.

Crowns and Veneers

In extreme cases where chipping is too significant or severe, dental bonding may not be the right choice. Your dentist can apply a dental crown, partial crown, or a veneer to repair larger chipping. This may be the case especially for front teeth called the smile zone. The dentist can adhere a crown or veneer with special permanent adhesive after removing a small amount of the enamel to make room for a comfortable fit.

Having a chipped tooth is no fun but this dental issue can be fixed quickly. If you’ve experienced any kind of oral trauma resulting in tooth chipping, call your local emergency dentist Solomon Dentistry at 843-871-0842.
